WRECK OF THE LANCASTRIA - ALAN MEEL [phonetic], COMMISSIONER, WAR GRAVES COMMISION, now backs the campaign to make the wreck a war grave. VOXPOP: LANCASTRIA SURVIVORS. STUDIO INTERVIEW: MARK HIRST, CAMPAIGNER AND GRANDSON OF SURVIVOR - three weeks after the evacuation of Dunkirk, 150,000 British troops were still in France. CHURCHILL had already made a broadcast saying everyone had been evacuated. The ship was sunk and Churchill put a D notice on the sinking, so that the public was not aware of it. In his memoirs, Churchill claimed to have forgotten to lift the D notice. Awareness of the Lancastria disaster was never great. But the problem is not insurmountable and we hope the minister will respond positively to Alan Meele. Presenter: the MOD say they will study the decision in the case of the SS STORA [phonetic].
